Robert Stanley John Horne

1935 - 2021

OBITUARY Print

Robert Stanley John Horne (Known to all as Bud) at the age of 85, passed away in the early morning hours of March 19, 2021 at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario from complications as a result of a fall.
He was born on December 15, 1935 in Hastings, Ontario, the second child of four for Stanley and Ellen Horne. He was a good brother to his siblings, James (Jimmy) Horne, Lenore (Nora) Dory and Nelson
(Sonny) Horne.
He was a people person. His kindness, sense of humor and his loyalty made him very well liked by everyone he met. He was a charmer, a personality trait that served him well in his career. He worked as a salesman all of his adult life, providing a good life for his family. He said that his favorite part of the job was making cold calls. He enjoyed meeting and talking to new people and it was a bonus to land a new account. His hard work won him many sales excellence awards and very expanded territory.
His greatest happiness was his family and his home. He never wanted to see the world he just wanted to be home with his family. He married his wife Rheta McGinnis on October 11, 1958. They were married 62 years. No man has ever lived the words for better or worse with more commitment and love than Bud. When his wife was diagnosed with MS it altered their plans for the future and created his new role of care giver. He never once complained and always said he was just looking after his girl. Their three daughters Sandra Horne, Wendy Wood and Judy Horne Bryan {Mark Bryan) all agree that they won the lottery for best dad. He was the good advice, the helping hand, the support and the hug when you needed it most, and sometimes when you didn't know you needed it. He never missed anything his kids were a part of. He was always proudly cheering in the audience. He will be loved, missed and remembered always.
Besides his wife and daughters he is survived by his three grand kids Kristen Wood, Laura Wood and Quinn Bryan. Each of them have great memories of their grandfather. He recently became great grandpa to Claire Newman.
A celebration of life is to be held at a future date to be determined.
The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Hospice Simcoe who took such amazing care of Bud. The family also would like to extend their thanks to the St. Elizabeth personal support workers who took care of Bud with such kindness.
The family would like any donations in Bud's memory go to Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario or to any other charity of choice.

Dear Miss Wendy I'm very sorry to hear of your recent loss.   I hold very good memories of your dad.   It was a pleasure to meet and help him every time he came to Shoppers Home Health Care, those many years, to get mom's supplies.   Always a smile and always great praise of his wife Rheta.  Some of my favorite customers and then to learn they are your parents, well there you go.   From my daughters Nadia, Sonia and myself Clara you and your family have a special place in our hearts.
