Obituary

Elisabeth Maria Ruehl (nee Rickes) passed away peacefully on November 24, 2021 at Grove Park Home (Barrie). Elisabeth was born on February 28, 1928 to Karl and Helene (Weber) Rickes in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, the oldest of 4 children. She married Erich Ruehl in 1952 and immigrated to Canada in 1960 where she became a proud Canadian citizen. In 1971 she lost her husband to cancer and became the matriarch to the family. She was a force to behold as she ran her own taxi business and worked hard to support her three children.  Elisabeth dedicated her life to being a fantastic, wonderful and always loving Mother and Oma!  She was the family cheerleader, supporting her children/grandchildren through their many passions and challenges in their lives.  She knew how to enjoy life and treasured many of the wonderful friendships she made over the years.  Her boundless energy and laughter inspired all who came into contact with her...she held onto this spirit to the very end. She enjoyed music (she played the harmonica like a boss!), dancing, singing, baking, playing cards but most of all she adored her family  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her!
Elisabeth was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Erich and her first born daughter Marion and will be greatly missed by her daughter Carrol (Richard), her son Michael (Darlene), her son-in-law Paul (Maureen), her grandchildren Rachel (Jonathan), Eric (Alessandra), Bradley (Abigail), Darren, Michael and Michelle and her 5 great grandchildren.  She also leaves behind her beloved partner of 19 years, Heinz Sperr.

Thank you to the Staff of Grove Park Home for their care of Elisabeth (Oma) during the past few years of her life and especially to the nurses and personal care workers for their exceptional and loving care during "Oma's" final days with us.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Elisabeth are asked to consider Grove Park Home, Barrie, Ontario, a non-profit organization, where your gift will be appreciated.
