Dorothy Irene Elizabeth (Ashton) Gray

July 24, 1929 ~ July 5, 2019 (age 89)

Dorothy Irene Elizabeth Gray (nee Ashton) July 24, 1929 - July 5, 2019

Passed peacefully from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease with her two daughters by her side at Roberta Place, Barrie Ontario.  Beloved wife of the late William Ronald Gray, loving mother to the late William Ronald Gray Jr and wife Martha, Lynda Irene Olver and husband Terry, Lance Alexander Gray and wife Rika, Christina Denise Trowell and husband John. Daughter to the late Harold Ashton and the late Winifred (nee Streeter), sister to Sandy Tymchuk, Marjorie Paradise, the late Eleanor Taylon , Judi O’Brien Valdez, Carol Ashton and Bill Cheeny. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Denise, Dawn, Alexander, Kimberly, Barclay, Clint, Rebecca, William, Elizabeth, Lance Jr, Jennifer, Dylan, Ryan, Miguel, Judy and Ronnie along with her twenty plus great grandchildren.

Dorothy was a strong woman who was always ready for a challenge, taking on several careers throughout her life.  She ran a successful children’s riding camp even though she was afraid of horses.  She became a Director for Mary Kay Cosmetics ( won a pink Buick Regal ) when she had never been one to wear make up and in her fifties she became a licensed Real Estate Agent for Royal Lepage.  With her loving husband by her side  Dorothy seemed to be a success at whatever she chose to do. But what Dorothy was most known for was her love of family and friends.  Her hosting of yearly weekend long family reunions at Rondo Valley Ranch became a tradition we all miss.  She was the glue that held the family together.  Family did not end with her children and her husband, it extended to Sisters, Brothers, Aunts ,Uncles, Cousins, Second Cousins and Friends.  Everyone was welcome and nobody ever left hungry.

Family and Friends are invited to celebrate Dorothy’s life.  There will be a memory book available if you would like to write down a thought or two to be passed on to her great grandchildren so they may get a glimpse of what a wonderful woman she was and the lives she touched.

Service and Interment will be held at Thornton Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Services, 1200 Thornton Rd N, Oshawa, on Saturday, July 27 at 1:00pm followed by a Celebration of Life.   If desired, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario would be appreciated.
