Cameron Oliver Bower, aged 85 and affectionately known to many as ‘Gramps,’ died peacefully at the Royal Victoria Regional Centre on May 9, 2019. He is survived by his children Andrea Enyedi (Alex), Dorothy Bower (Mark Rubino), Robertson Bower, Catharine Peerenboom (Dan) and Elizabeth Bower-Gordon (Kennedy); his grandchildren Nathan Enyedi (Tyler), Zachary Sellick (Amanda Cartaginese), Benjamin Sellick, Laryssa Mann (Ariah Robichaud), Roman Mann and Emily Gordon; as well as his great-grandchildren Kyren Robichaud-Mann, Elliott Robichaud-Mann, Georgia Sellick and Elyse Sellick.
Cameron worked hard all of his life, starting his early career as a linotype operator at the Calgary Herald and then in his hometown of Kingston, Ont. at the Kingston Whig-Standard. He went on to work in various jobs including as a small business owner, caretaker at the OPP and salesman at Penncorp. Cameron enjoyed volunteer community service and dedicated many years to helping people in distress through Telecare. He loved Blue Jays games, the Montreal Canadiens, live theatrical performances, the music of Johnny Cash and the works of novelist Somerset Maugham.
Cameron loved language and words. Nothing thrilled him more than sipping black tea and playing his beloved boardgames Probe and Scrabble with his family.
His family will miss his honesty, quirky humour and generous heart but we are left with wonderful memories of a man who loved his family deeply and was loved in return.
Cremation entrusted to Marshall W. Driver Cremation and Burial Service.
